Milton Major Peewee Select Mets Host and Win the Royal & Orange Peewee Select Tournament!
The Milton Mets Peewee Select Minor and Major Teams hosted the Royal & Orange Peewee Select Classic in Milton from June 8th-June 11th. The tournament consisted of 12 teams with 3 divisions. With local businesses providing support, the Milton Mets teams were able to put on a fun tournament with many compliments from the teams coming from out of town. The Real Canadian Superstore, Mobil Gas Station, Pepsi, Toppers Pizza and Springridge Farms all donated to help make the tournament a success with great food and monetary donations. Also, Play It Again Sports had a table set up to help any kids who needed some help with their equipment.
The Milton Major Mets went undefeated over the round robin and on Sunday morning played the Thornhill Reds in the semi-finals. With a 11-4 win over the Reds, the Major Mets then headed to the Final game verses the Markham Mariners. It was a hard fought game, but it was in the sixth inning that the team just exploded with excitement. The third Milton Met Major batter of the inning came to the plate and swung hitting a beautiful single bringing in 2 runs. This was extra special for this player as this allowed him to complete his CYCLE. His teammates cheered as he stepped on first base and was then later announced as player of the Championship game due to this amazing accomplishment. With the Mariners being home team, the Major Mets now found themselves heading into the bottom of the 7th with a 15-10 lead. The boys battled hard and with some clutch pitching, the Major Mets were able to strike out the last batter and win the game with a final score of 15-11. The fans cheered as the boys celebrated their great win and they received their winning trophies.
We would like to thank all the teams, volunteers and sponsors who helped to make the tournament a wonderful experience for all involved. It was an amazing weekend of baseball.
